Guest Speakers

Martin Kejval

Martin is the Chief Executive Officer at Destination Cape Smokey in Ingonish. Originally an international ski racer from the Czech Republic, Martin is responsible for opening the first gondola in Atlantic Canada at Ski Cape Smokey in Ingonish. Martin believes that Cape Smokey is more than just a ski hill and not just a winter destination. Martin says that Cape Breton Island is like New Zealand and Hawaii had a child and encourages both tourists and locals to utilize Cape Smokey year round by providing a variety of seasonal activities.

Dr. Jim Gerrie

Dr. Jim Gerrie, Cape Breton University Professor of Philosophy and Religious studies is the author of “Technology and Society: A Philosophical Guide (Broadview Press, 2018). In addition to his academic pursuits, Jim has also spent the last 40 years as a ”Coder”, game developer, and expert on the history of video games. As a first-generation gamer and aficionado of classic games such as Space Invaders, Mario and Doom, Jim contends that “Oregon Trail” only became a classic because it was the only game allowed on school computers at the time.

Clifton Cremo

Clifton's unique outlook on his Mi'kmaw upbringing and First Nations issues caught the attention of Ha!ifax Comedy Festival, where he is scheduled to perform in October at their main gala show and on their Best of the Fest tour and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, where he has been booked for virtual fundraising events, and of local comedy show-runners that have seen him open for the likes of JUNO Award Nominees Nick Nemeroff and Matt Wright.

Musical Guest

Mark Boutilier

Mark Boutilier is one-part small-town guy mixed with two-parts big city aspiration. There's no way else to describe him. You'd never expect to see an artist with such brilliant on-line and on-stage presence so early on in his musical journey. "I'm happy with what I've been able to achieve the last few years building my career, which is no easy feat." Mark cannot deny his musical influences: the Script, Lifehouse, the Fray, Jason Mraz and even modern, alt-rock vocalists like Raine Maida, Johnny Rzeznick and Jon Foreman to name a few. Mark's soulful vocal hearkens back to the likes of Lou Gramm and Bryan Adams; all the while lending itself to something current yet timeless.
